R2 LITES QUAL - McLeod on pole for Island Lites
6/5/2000 17:50 (Press Release) - Former Australian Karting Champion, Ryan McLeod has taken pole position for race one of the Konica V8 Lites at Phillip Island tomorrow.
McLeod’s Kmart Racing Commodore made the most of the inclement conditions to lead the field of twenty drivers.
"I am happy to be on pole for tomorrow and plan to capitalise on my position by focusing on the race and making the tyres last," McLeod said.
"I think we’ll see some close racing tomorrow and I plan to give as good as I get," he said.
Series leader, Dean Canto put in a disappointing performance, qualifying in sixth position after nudging the wall during practice and experiencing difficulty during the qualifying session.
"Rod Salmon put two wheels in the dirt which threw up stones and damaged my windscreen, putting holes in the radiator," series leader, Canto said.
"I lost some time fixing the damage and then got out there to post the best time I could."
John Falk #56 missed qualifying after crashing during practice and will start at the rear of the grid tomorrow.
V8 Supercar action starts tomorrow at Phillip Island 9.30am, followed by race one at 11.25, race two 1.45pm and race three at 3.40pm.
