V8 season in print for the first time

7/6/2004 13:41 (Press Release) - SAM Media has today announced plans to publish the first Official V8 Supercars Yearbook after signing a multi-year licensing agreement with the sport’s controlling body, AVESCO.

V8 Supercars racing remains one of the fastest growing sports in Australia, its appeal growing from the national attention of Bathurst and the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide down to the regional excitement of events in places such as Winton in rural Victoria.

Crowd figures now exceed 1.5 million over the many days of the 13 round series that touches every Australian state, the Northern Territory and New Zealand, and television ratings continue to show strong growth as does the sport’s official website.

SAM Media will leverage its association with AVESCO to ensure the greatest sales potential for the Yearbook and will also bring in some other promotional initiatives as the year progresses.

“Every year the collective V8 Supercar industry grows, and we have been watching that growth and looking for the right time to do this yearbook,” editor Andrew Clarke said when announcing the yearbook.

“V8 Supercar racing is fast colourful and exciting, and its drivers are legitimate superstars of Australian sport. They will all have a story to tell at the end of the year, and we hope to capture that story in words and pictures.

“We do not want to just build another book, we want to push previous boundaries in design and the way people have traditionally reported on the sport. It will look different, it will be vibrant and it will be exciting, but it will also serve as a documentary of the year.”

The yearbook will be published initially in soft cover form and will be on the newsstands for Christmas. There will also be an extensive pre-sell campaign through the SAM Media website (www.sammedia.com.au) as well as most of the drivers, teams and other websites in the sport.

SAM Media will release its cover design soon.
