Hidden Valley – Round 4, Top Ten Shootout
27/5/2004 16:40 (Anthony Goode) -
Holden Fans were rejoicing at the end of the Top Ten shootout to decide the starting grid for Saturday afternoon’s first race.
After what can only be described as a disastrous start to 2004 for the team, Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly snared pole and second spot on the grid respectively in their Holden VY Commodores.
So impressive was their performance, that they were the only two who could improve on the times they had set in the morning qualifying session.
PWR Racings' Jason Bright made it even better for Holden, coming in 3rd ahead of fastest Ford driver, Marcos Ambrose.
Stone Brothers teammate Russell Ingall finished the shootout in 5th on the grid, moving him up two positions.
In contrast, the Castrol Perkins Commodore of Steven Richards dropped two places from 4th in regular qualifying, relegating the teams lead driver to 6th.
7th was the lone Kmart Racing representative Car 15 in the hands of Rick Kelly. The 888 Engineering BA Falcon of Max Wilson, who had run so well to grab 2nd in the morning’s practise session, had fallen to 8th.
Team Dynamic had a good result with Simon Wills maintaining 9th position, while Larkham Orrcon Racing’s Jason Bargwanna finished 10th in his second consecutive top ten appearance.
