Recovery To Provide Ellery With An Edge

25/5/2004 19:56 (Press Release) - If you ask any professional athlete they will tell you it is essential to complete a quick and efficient recovery to ensure peak performance throughout competition. Steven Ellery will take the same approach to help him complete his climb through the field at Round Four of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship at Darwin.

In this afternoons race Ellery was the 21st car to cross the finish line after his Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon qualified five positions lower in 26th

“The competitiveness of the V8 Supercar category has become apparent once again today with the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon qualifying 26th and not even a second was between us and pole,” Ellery said.

Tomorrow to help Ellery continue his scramble through the field the Super Cheap Auto Racing Driver will heed the advice of physio-therapist Chris Brady who has adopted a specialised recovery program to assist Ellery in coping with the hot conditions of Darwin.

Brady outlines that there are four distinct phases of the recovery process which will help Ellery recover quickly and commence his preparation for tomorrow’s two races in the Darwin heat.

“Steven has already started to re-hydrate and will continue this process throughout the night,” Brady said.

“Steven will then complete a recovery session in the pool at the motel to help him cool down. For dinner, Steven will have a meal high in protein to help him recover from the stress of this afternoon’s environment.

“Steven will also complete a light flexibility session and ice bathing will be administered to complete the recovery process.”

The recovery techniques completed by Ellery tonight and tomorrow evening will complement his training program away from the track.

“It is essential for any V8 Supercar driver to be in the best condition possible and having Chris on board provides me with the best recovery and an edge over my competitors,” Ellery stated.

“While I physically didn’t feel too bad after today’s race it is great to have Chris attending each race meeting to ensure I stay in the best physical condition possible.

“Chris’s role in the team is to ensure I am as finely tuned as possible. Just as a mechanic would tune a car, he is there to make sure I am tuned in.”

Accidents involving other competitors on the last lap instigated a Stewards enquiry with final results of today’s race to be confirmed later in the night.
