Besnard To Lead Two-Car WPS Racing Team In Darwin

21/5/2004 20:15 (Press Release) - WPS Racing, one of the surprise performers in its debut V8 Supercar Championship season, will have two cars on the track for the first time when the series rolls into Darwin this weekend.

Driver David Besnard, currently sitting 17th on the championship table on equal points with Mark Skaife and ahead of Craig Lowndes, will be joined on track by team mate Mark Noske.

The move follows team owner Craig Gore’s purchase this month of a second license, allowing WPS Racing to field two cars for the balance of the season.

Gore said it was pleasing to get both cars on track and it presented a new set of challenges for the team.

“We have used the first three races of the series to understand Bezzy’s (David Besnard) car and we will be applying everything we have learnt to Mark’s car,” said Gore.

“That said, I anticipate it will be a challenging transition from one to two cars and it will be a good test for our team.”

The move to a two-car team comes at an interesting time for WPS Racing.

The team has spent the downtime since the third round in New Zealand seeking improved engine performance.

“I’m really looking forward to getting in the car at Darwin and seeing whether we have found the improvement we were seeking,” said Besnard.

“The car has been brilliant so far and our only area where we have felt we needed to lift was in horsepower.

“That has been addressed since New Zealand so it is going to be interesting to put the changes to the test.”

Besnard has fond memories of Hidden Valley, where he placed 5th in 2001 when driving for another team.

“It is a great track and an enjoyable event so I will be looking for a forward showing,” he said.

“We are still a new team and we are learning every round.

“It would be great to go out and compete with the frontrunners but our objective at this stage is to keep steadily improving.

“If that puts us in the top half of the field then we will be happy.”

Besnard will continue to drive in car 23, while team mate Mark Noske will be piloting car 48.
