Supercars shine on TV's "night of nights"

1/5/2000 0:35 (Jason Whittaker) - The V8 Supercars shone at Australian Television's "night of nights" last night, picking up a Logie Award for outstanding Television coverage.

Ten Network's broadcast of last year's Bathurst FAI 1000 received the Most Outstanding Sports Program award at last night's 42nd Annual TV Week Logie Awards in Melbourne.

Ten's coverage of the Supercars' showcase event pipped the Melbourne Cup Carnival and Rugby World Cup to share the award with the Nine Network's coverage of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.

The award was voted on by a panel of respected industry experts, who work within the sports, and sports broadcasting, field.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Network's Motorsport team, Ten anchor Tim Webster spoke of the dedication and faith shown by the Network to support Motorsport, and particularly the Supercar category, to the extent that they do.

Ten's massive 15-hour live coverage from Mt. Panorama is the largest and most ambitious broadcasting project undertaken by any network each year, requiring some 55 cameras and over 165 personnel.

Bill Woods anchored the coverage last year, with Leigh Diffey, Mark Oastler and Barry Sheene calling the action from the commentary box.
