V8 Supercar Driver delivers Road Safety Message

21/5/2004 19:36 (Press Release) - Orrcon Racing’s V8 Supercar driver Mark Winterbottom visited Ludmilla Primary School in Darwin today to deliver the important message of road safety to some of the territory’s younger generation in the lead up to the next V8 Supercar Championship Series round at Hidden Valley.

Winterbottom visited the school as part of the Wright Patton Shakespeare Safety Car Program that travels to schools around Australia giving them the chance to experience the excitement that is associated with the world’s most competitive touring car championship.

“The WPS Schools Program is a great initiative for children to get a taste of V8 Supercar racing,” Winterbottom said. “With having only one round of the championship in the Northern Territory every year, it is great to see everyone get involved to make it such a big event.

“By delivering the important message of road safety to the children at Ludmilla Primary, it makes them aware that it is imperative that rules are followed on our roads as well as on the race track.

“It is also a fantastic opportunity for the children to get a glimpse of some of the most cutting edge Broadband Internet technology available.”

For the first time this year, the BigPond Broadband Media Truck participated in the Wright Patton Shakespeare Safety Car Program allowing children at Ludmilla Primary to get hands on with some of the most advanced technology available.

The V8 Supercars mobile media centre was launched at the first round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at the Clipsal 500 in March this year and is a satellite-linked mobile media centre that attends all V8 Supercar Championship rounds providing journalists with satellite broadband for fast transfer of V8 Supercar news reporting.

The BigPond mobile media centre is a 40-tonne, 25-metre, B-Double transporter that will house 21 members of the media at all Australian and New Zealand rounds of the V8 Supercar Championship Series.

The visit coincides with the fourth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series held at the Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin on May 21-23.
