Resurgent Gurr To Race With The Holden Young Lions

20/5/2004 21:23 (Press Release) - After a jarring incident in the infamous turn 8 at Adelaide, then series point’s leader Alan Gurr thought his season was over. With a battered body and bent Holden Commodore it was time to return the Gold Coast and recuperate.

Today the Holden Young Lions have signed a fully recovered Alan Gurr to complete the last three championship rounds and the Bathurst Konica Minolta event. The seat was left vacant after the departure of Michael Caruso post Adelaide and was filled in at short notice admirably at Winton by Steve Owen. In signing Gurr, team owner John Faulkner is happy to have known quantity behind the wheel and to put the turmoil of the Caruso departure behind him.

“Alan has shown his talent at Wakefield and our team has shown its speed at Winton. I am sure that together we will be capable of some good results for the remainder of the season with both our drivers.’”

“The team needed some certainty for the remainder of the season and while Steve did an absolutely great job in showing what the team and the car are capable of at Winton we just couldn’t be sure of finding full support for the remaining rounds.”

Alan himself is as keen as ever to get behind the wheel again with no residual effects from the massive hit.

“I am as fit as I was at the beginning of the season. Whilst it was a heavy impact after a few days when everything settled down I wasn’t as sore as I thought I would be.” Gurr stated.

“I think that we have all seen that the speed is there so it should be good to get driving again. I haven’t been to Eastern Creek since 2000 but it shouldn’t take long to come to terms with the track.”

Alan is the likely contender to fill the seat alongside Paul Morris come the co-driver events at the end of the year and will use this as further preparation.

“The championship is out of reach after missing Winton so even though I don’t have to be as conservative as the guys still fighting it out, getting more race laps and results in the lead-up to the Enduro’s is my focus”

Alan will be driving #46 with Kurt Wimmer retaining the #96.
