R4 RACE 2 - The Rat breaks tradition

30/4/2000 18:17 (Press Release) - Just when it looked like the Holden Racing Team were going to take all the glory again, Paul Radisich has rewritten the script, taking his maiden Shell Championship Series race win, and a rare Ford victory in a thrilling race two at Eastern Creek.

The HRT duo of Skaife and Lowndes were relegated to second and third, ahead ff the Castrol Holden of Russell Ingall and Glenn Seton's Tickford Ford in a very tight tussle which saw the top ten placegetters separated by just over three seconds.

Radisich has frequently been the leading Ford driver, but today was the first time he has conquered the Holden's for the ultimate result.

Radisich stormed off the start line in his Shell Helix Falcon to charge from fourth to first by the first corner.

The "Rat" survived mid race scraps with Garth Tander, Lowndes and Skaife, to take the chequered flag in front of a horde of ecstatic Ford fans. The win is only the fourth for a Ford driver in 40 Shell Series starts since the beginning of 1999.

Series leader, Tander, was nudged off the track and suffered a punctured tyre after an aggressive challenge from Lowndes for second place and recorded his first non points scoring finish of the season.

The third and final race of the day will start at 3.30pm.
