Parity debate decided - Holden's wings will be clipped

29/4/2000 15:56 (Jason Whittaker) - Despite much controversy, V8 Commodores will have their wings clipped after a method of implementation was finally decided on by concerned parties last night.

After much debate between the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS), the Touring Car Entrants Group (TEGA) and the Performance Review Committee (PRC), a consensus was finally reached as to the method of the Holden "slow down" in a meeting between the parties last night.

The PRC's recommendation was to trim 100mm from the front airdam undertray of the Holden's front spoiler. That recommendation was later given the green light by CAMS.

It is hoped the changes will slow the Commodores by an average of 0.3 sec per one minute lap, eliminating much of the supposed disparity between the two marques.

Somewhat of a stalemate existed between the three parties as to which method should be adopted to implement the changes. The deadline for this decision was to be made by April 18, but was pushed back until last night, making it impossible for the changes to be made before this weekend's meeting at Eastern Creek.

All Commodore teams will be forced to make the changes before the next round of the Shell Series at Hidden Valley Raceway. The method will then be trialed for three SCS rounds, after which time the parity situation will once again be reviewed.

AVESCO have today said the changes are in the best interests of the sport, and should provide the parity that has been lacking in many people's eyes for a number of races. Holden teams have claimed 36 of the last 38 races against their Blue Oval rivals.
