Round 3 PlaceMakers NZ V8 International - Part 3 Shootout

1/5/2004 14:50 (Mark Jones) - King of the one lap screamer, Holden Racing Team owner Mark Skaife has claimed pole position in a wet Top Ten Shootout at the PlaceMakers NZ V8 International at Pukekohe Park.

Skaife mastered the conditions best in his VY Commodore, taking the pole by the slim margin of four thousandths over his season long rival from 2003, reigning champion Marcos Ambrose.

Four time winner of the NZ V8 International, Greg Murphy improved from fifth to third on his old home track ahead of fellow Holden driver Jason Bright who lost time from last car out finish his lap alomst a second from Skaife.

The conditions appeared to favour those going out later in the session, with the top four cars coming from the last five and a gap of eight tenths existing from Bright to fifth placed Steven Richards.

The conditions forced a gap in the top ten larger than any of the practice sessions for the whole field, with an unsteady Jason Bargwanna 2.8 seconds from Skaife's pole time.

A 100 kilometre race will be held later today ahead of two 150 kilometre races on Sunday.
