Puke Whets Dynamik Appetite!
1/5/2004 5:51 (Press Release) -
Team Dynamik has poured efforts into boosting wet weather pace for this weekend’s Placemakers NZ V8 International Supercar round at New Zealand’s Pukekohe Park Raceway.
Team drivers Simon Wills and Dale Brede will take to the 2.8km circuit confident that their Roadships VY Commodores are right on top ten pace, following on from good car speed last round and strong results previously for Wills at Pukekohe.
Wills in car #44 finished Pukekohe strongly last year to place eighth for the meeting, charging through a rain-sodden field in the opening race.
“I have plenty of experience at Puke in wet conditions,” said the native Aucklander,”and with the modifications we’ve made to our wet weather set-up, I’m confident we can do well here.”
Showers have been forecast for this weekend but Team Director Oscar Fiorinotto believes Team Dynamik has found the set-up for good car speed, no matter what the conditions.
Over the Easter break, the Team has been busy finetuning engine developments, and tailoring suspension settings to give more grip in the wet.
“We’ve also made some brake modifications,” he said. “At Eastern Creek we showed that we were competitive on the dry track, but we struggled in the wet. So we’ve made some adjustment there,” he said.
Much of the Team’s resources over the recent four-week break were channeled into completing the new VY Commodore, which is now “90% finished” and nearing debut, according to Fiorinotto.
Two other Team Dynamik pacesetters are looking at ‘firsts’ this weekend: Car 45 driver Dale Brede hits the Pukekohe track for the first time, and car naming rights sponsors Roadships makes its first splash at a New Zealand supercar race before an expected 100,000 spectators.
Brede, buoyed by a gutsy finish on a treacherous Eastern Creek skidpan last round, aims to build on consistency and speed at this deceptively technical track.
Supercars average around 175km/h around this circuit, one of the highest average speeds of the Series, and pull more than 240km/h down the main straight but its undulating corners can deceive.
“I plan to spend a lot of time with Oscar and Simon learning about the track; it looks simple but I’ve been told is very difficult and there are a couple of key corners to watch for,” he said.
Round 3 V8 Supercar Series qualifying is on Friday April 30, with the Top 10 Shootout and Race 1 on Saturday, with races 2 and 3 on Sunday.
