Ellery Chasing Points In New Zealand

27/4/2004 23:57 (Press Release) - Steven Ellery is issuing a warning to his competitors to beware of the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon as he makes a points charge at the international round of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship at the PlaceMakers NZ V8 International at Pukekohe Raceway next weekend.

This year Super Cheap Auto Racing has been dealt blow after blow and Ellery is yet to register any series points in this year’s V8 Supercar Championship.

“Last year we had a really strong finish to the season which included podiums at Sandown and Bathurst and to not register any points to date really hits me where it hurts,” Ellery said.

“But what makes it even more shattering is that we know that the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon is one of the leading cars in the V8 Supercar category, we just haven’t managed to record any runs on the board recently.

“The Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon was competitive at the endurance races last year and did not go outside the top six in practice and qualifying at Adelaide. It is just a matter of me taking the potential within the car transforming it into results.”

Last year when Super Cheap Auto Racing made the trip across the Tasman, Ellery was 13th overall and was placed in the top nine in the first race.

“I’ve never had any major hiccups at Pukekohe and want to use the weekend to put myself into a rhythm and establish a pattern of finishing races and claiming points for the championship,” Ellery commented.

“There is a bit of ground work for me to make up before I reach the point I wanted to be in at this stage of the championship.”

Before Super Cheap Auto Racing can set the track on fire, one lucky New Zealander will be given the opportunity of a lifetime and win a ride with Ellery around Pukekohe Raceway in the #31 Falcon.

Ellery will draw the winner of the prize at the Super Cheap Auto Store Appearance at Albany, Auckland. Individuals attending the event can enter the competition by completing an entry form and remaining at the store until the prize is drawn at 6pm. The store appearance commences at 3pm, with Ellery signing autographs from 4.30pm.

“New Zealanders are certainly passionate about V8 Supercars. To provide them with this kind of access to the team is certainly something which we expect to be extremely popular,” Ellery concluded.

Round Three of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship at Pukekohe Raceway commences on Friday 29 April 2004, with the first race the following day. The final two races of the event will take place on Sunday 2 May.
