WPS Racing Powers In Testing

27/4/2004 23:21 (Press Release) - WPS Racing has pushed the performance of its V8 Supercars to new heights after a rigorous test session at Willowbank Raceway at Ipswich. Inspirational driver David Besnard posted a series of new best times around the testing circuit as the team continued to trial various set ups in a quest to extract further speed from an already well performing car.

He was joined on the test track by team mate Mark Noske, who took the team’s second Ford Falcon for its first hit out of the season.

Team manager Keith Evers said Noske extracted good initial speed from the second car, which is being prepared for its season debut once WPS Racing secures a second license to race.

“It was a busy day for the team as it was the first time we had both of our cars running,” said Evers.

“The boys were really pushing the cars and at one point we blew an engine but it was a very rewarding day.

“We found further improvement in Bezzy’s car and we seem to be getting faster every time we get on the track.”

WPS Racing also used the test day, held on April 16, to trial a number of different endurance combinations.

WPS Racing general manager Charlie O’Brien got behind the wheel of Noske’s car, as did drivers John McIntyre and Alex Davison.

“You have to make the most out of these test days as we are restricted to just six of them a year,” said Evers.

“We made some great gains and we are now looking to demonstrate that when we get to New Zealand for round three in two weeks.”

David Besnard is sitting in 13th place on the V8 Supercar Championship Series ladder after the first two rounds.

It is a sensational start to season by the youngest team in the V8 Supercar series.

WPS Racing was formed in February this year when team owner Craig Gore, chairman of team sponsor Wright Patton Shakespeare Financial Group, bought the shell of the former 00 Motorsport team.

The team did an excellent job just to get on the start line for the first round in Adelaide and then turned in a remarkable performance on a waterlogged track in the second round at Eastern Creek.

“We have shown in the first two races that we are not here to make up the numbers,” said Gore.

“We have already shown we are a highly competitive team and we will be a force in this year’s championship.”
