Ten Sport - Seriously Outstanding

27/4/2004 23:19 (Press Release) - Network Ten has confirmed its leading position in sport broadcasting after winning the TV Week Logie Award for Most Outstanding Sports coverage for the 2003 Bob Jane T-Marts Bathurst 1000 last night.

Network Ten won against strong competition including Nine’s Summer of Test Cricket, Rugby League State of Origin and the Rugby World Cup on the Seven Network.

The Bathurst 1000 is arguably the largest and most difficult annual sporting event to produce in Australia with a crew of more than 300 people working to cover every aspect of the regional 6.2 kilometre track and 40-car field.

Network Ten’s motor sport host Bill Woods accepted the award and fittingly dedicated the Logie to two-time 500cc Motorcycle World champion and integral member of the TEN motor sport team, Barry Sheene, who passed away last year.

Network Ten’s general manager, Sport, David White said: “this is fantastic recognition for the many people that put our broadcast together in incredibly challenging conditions yet still produce a world class product.”

The Bathurst 1000 has always held iconic status in Australia, proven by the fact that Network Ten’s broadcast averages in excess of 1.2 million people for the entire 10 hour broadcast.

In 2004, Network Ten will televise more than 700 hours of sport as the broadcaster of every major motor sport category in the world including V8 Supercars, Formula One, Moto GP, World Rally Championship and Australian Rally Championship in addition to being the major AFL broadcaster holding the rights to the entire AFL Finals Series.

This is the second time Network Ten has won the ‘Most Outstanding Sports Coverage’ Logie for the Bathurst 1000 after also winning it 1999.
