Tough Day In Tough Conditions For BJR

14/4/2004 21:53 (Press Release) - The Brad Jones Racing duo of John Bowe and Brad Jones have struggled through atrocious conditions at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney, where today’s 300km race was marred by torrential rain.

Starting from 10th position, John Bowe had weaved his way into 7th and was showing all his class in the tricky conditions. An incident with Greg Murphy on lap 14, when Bowe’s OzEmail Falcon was hit from behind, caused both cars the leave the track. Murphy rejoined almost immediately but Bowe was forced to let a number of cars go before assuming the race, dropping to 29th spot.

By this stage, team mate Brad Jones was fighting to keep his car on the track. His OzEmail Falcon was not adapting to the slippery situation. By keeping out of trouble, he has still managed to improve his track position to 20th.

By half race distance, John Bowe has managed to claw back nine spots and was now sitting in 20th. A couple of wet track induced spins had relegated Jones to 23rd place.

It was just 5 laps later that disaster struck the #12 OzEmail Falcon. In pouring rain, Bowe’s wiper stopped working, creating even more calamity for the team. In the remaining laps, Bowe was forced, for safety reasons, to let three of his fellow competitors pass and settle for a credible race finish. Bowe eventually crossed the line in 18th position and remains inside the top ten in the championship standings.

Brad Jones continued to battle with the conditions and his car but like his garage partner, he took the conservative decision to gain as many championship points as possible. Coming in 23rd today puts Jones in 24th place in the standings.
