Design Change Could Be The Difference For Ellery

4/4/2004 8:49 (Press Release) - Super Cheap Auto Racing Driver, Steven Ellery will be hoping his face at the conclusion of tomorrow’s race reflects his new helmet design after qualifying 28th for round two of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship at Eastern Creek.

For some years now, Ellery has had a ‘smiley’ face as a feature of his helmet design. Tomorrow the Super Cheap Auto Racing Driver will draw on this good omen to drive him through the field.

“The new helmet design all started a couple of years ago, when Super Cheap Auto Racing put the series calendar on the back of the transporter,” Ellery said, “whenever we had a good round we would put a ‘smiley’ face sticker next the event, if it was a bad day then the smile was replaced with a frown.”

“Last time I got a new helmet, I put the happy sticker on the helmet so it didn’t look so blank. After the round telecast, Super Cheap Auto Racing got a number of phone calls from fans saying how much they liked the smiley face image whenever the in-car camera focused on me.

“A week ago, I had to choose a new helmet design and I decided to evolve the concept so the little smileys got more personality. Now the helmet depicts them trying to hold on as the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon reaches speeds in excess of 200 kilometres per hour.”

Round two of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship also marks the V8 Supercar debut of 2002 Ford Kart Stars Champion, Adam Graham, who will be in charge of changing the left front tyre during the tomorrow’s race.

Graham recently joined Super Cheap Auto Racing for a test in the team’s ride car and produced times which indicated the 19 year old is a potential V8 Supercar star in the making.

“While I am excited, it is still really daunting to think that tomorrow I will be involved in one of the leading teams in Australia’s premier motorsport category,” Graham stated.

“Whenever I get a chance I am next to the car practicing the tyre change for the race. Yesterday we had a dress rehearsal of what a race pit stop would be like and my whole body was pumping with adrenalin.

“I have already learnt so much and know that when it comes time for me to make the step into V8 Supercars, I will have an already developed knowledge of the vehicles.”

Super Cheap Auto Racing Team Manager, John McLean believes Graham has great potential in Australian motorsport and is a great asset to the team the team which already has a youth development policy.

“Adam impressed Super Cheap Auto Racing so much we decided to welcome him aboard as a pit crew member. As he progresses through the motorsport ranks, I know the lessons he learns from his time with the team will become very useful,” McLean added.

“Super Cheap Auto Racing is committed to the development of young motorsport talent in Australia, with Luke Youlden in the Konica Series and now Adam as a member of the team.”
