WPS Ready for Racing at Eastern Creek

The V8 Supercar Championship Series’ youngest team, WPS Racing, continued to come to grips with its step learning curve in qualifying for the second round of the national championship at Eastern Creek Raceway today.
Driver David Besnard had been running consistently in the top 10 in every session over the last two days, but missed the set-up in qualifying today and will start 26th in tomorrow’s 280km race.
“We really have had a good car, but when we put the new tyres on it for qualifying it did not respond how it should have,” said Besnard.
“I made a small slip up on my quick lap, but nothing that cost a heap of time.
“We will go back to what we had earlier in the meeting and hopefully that will be better for us in the race.
“I still think we have a very good racecar, but it will be important for us to stay out of trouble tomorrow to ensure we have the chance to use it.
“It is important to finish these one-race format events to ensure you keep the points ticking over.
“Despite not being further up the grid, the tremendous enthusiasm within the team has continued throughout today and everyone is itching for tomorrow.
“There is a chance of some rain tomorrow which never worries me too much.”
WPS Racing team owner Craig Gore says his crew has analysed today’s performance and will put the efforts down to a “learning” experience.
“We had been on top of the mountain up until the last session before qualifying,” said Gore.
“We made some mistakes and that was because we became too over confident with the results we had put together.
“We did not get into the top 50% of qualifying and then tried to change a very good car.
“This has all been a learning experience for us and we will do plenty of learning as we go head on into our first season.
“While saying all that, we are very excited about tomorrow.”
