Bowe Takes Provisional Pole

4/4/2004 8:40 (Press Release) - John Bowe has rocketed his OzEmail Falcon to pole position during the V8 Supercar qualifying today at Sydney’s Eastern Creek Raceway, well ahead of the rest of the field.

Bowe’s time of 1:31:88 was 0.3 second faster than second placed, Mark Skaife and easily earning the fastest Ford title. His effort exemplified by the fact that his engineering team attributed the pole lap time purely to Bowe’s driving ability.

According to the thrilled Bowe, it was a new psychological approach that gave him the edge – “Instead of doing lap after lap during qualifying hoping to make the next one count, we sat in the pits until there was just four minutes to go in the session.”

“That meant that I only had enough time to do two flyers [fast, timed laps]. For some people, it would create too much pressure but knowing that I only had to worry about two laps was a big plus for me and I guess the results are on the time sheets,” Bowe added.

It was a blistering effort by the former touring car champ, earning him high praise from the Brad Jones Racing outfit.

“The guy is just amazing. He has proven today that after almost twenty years of professional racing, he is still one of the most talented people on track. It’s a credit to him,” said BJR Team Manager, Kim Jones.

John Bowe will now attempt to replicate his effort during this afternoon’s Top Ten Shootout, where he will have the honour of being the last car to tackle the single lap dash.

Team mate , Brad Jones will start tomorrow’s 300km race from 22nd position.
