Morris Sixth Fastest In V8 Supercar Practice

Sirromet Wines Holden Commodore driver Paul Morris produced a late burst of speed at Eastern Creek Raceway today to emerge sixth fastest in the opening practice session for Sunday's second round of the V8 Supercar Championship.
Morris recorded a best lap time of 1-min 33.367-secs around the 3.9km circuit in his VY Commodore, fitted with a Holden Motorsport engine. He set the time on his 22nd and final lap of the 90-mins session.
The 36-year-old Gold Coast driver, who is eighth in the championship, finished 0.821-secs behind Russell Ingall, who clocked the quickest practice lap in a Caltex Havoline Ford Falcon. Mark Skaife was second fastest in a Holden Racing Team Commodore, with championship leader Marcos Ambrose eighth in a Pirtek Falcon.
Tomorrow there will be two further practice sessions, followed by qualifying. The top 10 in qualifying advance to the one-lap Shoot Out.
Sunday's race will be over 300km.
PAUL MORRIS QUOTES: "It's been a good day and we seem to be competitive here. Since Adelaide (first round of championship on March 20-21) we haven't done any testing so there was plenty of things to do today. We worked our way through an extensive program of set-up changes collecting data and information. Near the end of the session we tuned the car to what we thought would work best and did a quick lap.
"My best time wasn't a perfect lap – in fact a couple of cars spun in front of me, so I know I can go quicker. The balance of the car is good, but we still have to improve getting the power down. Tomorrow we will put some new tyres on the car and see what we can do. Hopefully we can get into the Shoot Out and start the race up the front somewhere. Our car should be a good thing over 300km around here."
