Consistency Pays Off For Shane Beikoff Racing

24/3/2004 0:30 (Press Release) - Archerfield-based V8 Supercar Team Shane Beikoff Racing proved consistency is the key to success in motor racing during Round 2 of the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series at the famous Adelaide street circuit.

With speedway-ace Phill Foster taking the driving duties of the #68 Dieseltech Springwood AU Falcon, Foster qualified in 27th position after some early problems in Practice 1, having never driven the Shane Beikoff Racing AU Falcon nor the demanding & bumpy 3.2km Adelaide circuit prior to this weekend.

Foster used the Practice & Qualifying sessions to learn the characteristics of the AU Falcon, and learn the braking & gear change points on the track. Foster also competed in the Aussie Legends support event on the weekend, in order to speed up his learning progress of the Adelaide track.

Race 1’s “twilight” event saw the Shane Beikoff Racing #68 move up the field progressively, with Foster continuing to improve lap times, stay out of the carnage at the notorious Turn 8, and eventually completing the 24-lap race in 17th position. Foster explained that he adapted a “low-risk” strategy for his first Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series race in 18 months.

“Due to the fact that this is my first time not just at the Adelaide circuit, but in the Shane Beikoff Racing AU, I was very cautious in my approach to the racing & it paid off in the end – no damage to the car, and quite a respectable results, considering we finished in front of two Howard Racing Falcons, Holden Young Lions & Smiths Trucks cars,” an excited Foster said later.

Saturday’s Race 2 proved to be equally as successful for the small Brisbane-based operation, as Foster continued to steer clear of any panel damage, and finished in 19th position in the #68 Falcon. Foster also set his fastest lap of the entire weekend in Race 2, which he believes was the result of increased track time, as well as an improvement in driving style & approach.

“The Shane Beikoff Racing guys have worked really hard this weekend to improve my driving approach & that is all the more evident by my lap times – I went quicker every session I drove in, and I know there were still a few improvements I could have made to my driving style, however confidence is a big factor in driving these V8Supercars around a street circuit, and that’s all I was lacking throughout the weekend.”

“The Shane Beikoff Racing AU was a pleasure to drive – it never missed a beat all weekend and I should give credit to the Beikoff Racing crew for helping me ease back into V8Supercars again,” Foster commented.
