Sensational Adelaide For Castrol Perkins Motorsport

21/3/2004 16:11 (Press Release) - Castrol Perkins Motorsports Steven Richards and Paul Dumbrell have made a great start to this year's championship, finishing 2nd and 8th in race 1 of the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

Tony Longhurst race was over before it began with the team unable to repair his VY Commodore after yesterday's crash. The car will be sent back to the workshop to get it ready for round 2 at Eastern Creek

Steven and Paul both made fantastic starts, getting through the normally incident packed first lap without any problems. The only major incident of the race was HRT's Todd Kelly collecting the wall on the super fast turn 13 causing major damage to his VY Commodore, and littering the track with debris.

After starting from 12th on the grid Steven came into pit on lap 20 for his compulsory tyre stop, he then rejoined the track in 16th position.

The team then called Steven in early for the compulsory fuel stop on lap 30 which gave him the opportunity to run clear of traffic.

After rejoining the race in 18th position Steven fought through the field taking position after position to finally finish the race in second, giving him a valuable 93 points and a spot on the front row beside Marcos Ambrose for tomorrow's race.

"The car was great to drive today, and that would have to be one of the most enjoyable races I have ever driven in. The battle I had with Skaifey and Russell was great but you only get to have those sorts of races when the team gives you a great car, so full credit must go to them. I still think the car has more speed so the team will work on that tonight, and I can't wait for tomorrow's race" said Steven

Paul Dumbrell had one of the best's drives of his career storming through the field from 21st position in his VX Commodore. The team also called Paul in to pit on lap 20 for tyres, then his compulsory fuel stop on lap 31. Paul moved through the field finally finishing in 8th giving him a valuable 75 points and a start from the 4th row of the grid for tomorrow's race.

"I am extremely happy with car, we made some changes after the warm up this morning and the car was a pleasure to drive. It was hard work out there though with the temperature getting very hot in the car, but I am very happy finishing 8th after starting from 21st position" said Paul.

Marcos Ambrose took the victory followed by Steven Richards and Russell Ingall.
