Fifth For Youlden As Super Cheap Auto Racing Ascends Up Finishing Order
20/3/2004 7:56 (Press Release) -
Luke Youlden from Super Cheap Auto Racing used skill and speed to climb up to fifth position in the first race of round two of the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship at Adelaide today.
Youlden caught his competitors unaware and as the field arrived at the first turn of the race the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon was four positions higher then a qualifying position of eighth.
“The acceleration of the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon off the start was fantastic. To half my position on the first lap made the rest of the race about challenging for higher positions and focusing on my driving rather than avoiding the accidents on track,” Youlden said.
Carnage seemed to rule the 24 lap race, with the safety car called onto the track during the race and a number of cars failing to cross the finish line and claim valuable championship points.
“The best thing about today’s race was that the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon made progress and is still in a strong position for race two,” Youlden said, “Tomorrow I will be able to knuckle down and focus on racing with the car still in a competitive condition for passing.”
“This is only the second round of the championship and there are a few teams which have sustained mammoth damage as a result of today,” Youlden commented, “I wouldn’t mind betting that a lot of people will be working late to be ready in time for the next round of the championship, let alone tomorrow’s race.”
Fans and drivers alike eagerly anticipated today’s racing action with competitors in the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship firing their engines as the sun was about to set.
“The twilight race is fantastic for everyone. The fans love it, it provides competitors in the Konica Minolta Series more exposure and makes the Clipsal 500 an event which truly celebrates V8 Supercar racing in Australia,” Youlden said.
Round two of the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship wraps up tomorrow with another 24 lap race, before the Steven Ellery and the #31 Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon hit the track for the first leg of the Clipsal 500 at 2pm.
