Jones Ready To Pounce From Second Row

19/3/2004 16:59 (Press Release) - Andrew Jones aboard his Team BOC Falcon has qualified third for tomorrow’s opening race for the Konica Minolta V8 Supercars at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. A result that disappointed the young driver after dominating the earlier practice sessions.

“We were the quickest car in both of this morning’s practice sessions and my BOC Falcon felt absolutely great so to finish up third was a bit of a blow for us,” said Andrew Jones.

“I’m just not sure if I attacked the track properly during qualifying, I think maybe I should have thrown the car around a little more. The Adelaide Street Circuit isn’t very rewarding to a smooth driving style,” he added.

Like many of the drivers, Jones was surprised by the pace during the qualifying session – “My time of 1:23:9 was the same time that the main series cars did during their qualifying last year. For Matty [White] to go two tenths [of a second] quicker and get pole is a great effort.”

Looking towards tomorrow’s 24 lap race, Jones’ ex-John Bowe BOC Falcon has a proven record of being a fast package in race trim. In the same car, Jones was unlucky not to win the Konica Minolta V8 Supercar race at the Clipsal 500 last year.

“My BOC Falcon has definitely got what it takes to win. I’m confident that it will be one of, if not the quickest car out there tomorrow, so it’s going to be up to me to get a good result. We can’t afford to have a repeat of last year when we were forced to retire when we should have won the race,” Jones added.

Starting from the second row of the grid, Jones has been rated as one of the firm favourites to take out the opening encounter.

On a lighter note and for the first time, Jones will be joined on the grid by Gaspo tomorrow, BOC’s unique mascot. An animated character, Gaspo will become a patron of Team BOC for the remainder of the year and will attend a number of races.
