18/3/2004 19:52 (Press Release) -
BigPond's new broadband Internet features, launched today at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, will make the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship Series even more ‘amazing’ for fans.
For the first time, V8 Supercar fans with BigPond Broadband access will be able to chat online with other V8 Supercar fans while watching all the live action with vision, timing and telemetry on www.v8supercar.bigpond.com
This new interactive race-viewing feature will be available from the third round of the V8 Supercar Championship.
BigPond Managing Director, Justin Milne, said BigPond would continue to deliver fans a more interactive and innovative V8 Supercars experience.
“We are witnessing a real avalanche of interest in broadband at the moment and one of the key factors driving customers to broadband is the exciting content and enhanced capabilities that broadband can offer,” Mr Milne said.
“V8 Supercars on BigPond Broadband offers a complete interactive insight into the Series and one of the best online motorsport experiences available.”
“Fans in regional areas where live V8 Supercar TV coverage might be unavailable now are able to tune in via BigPond Broadband and view all the live action from Qualifying, Top Ten shootouts, media conferences and in-car cameras.”
The V8 Supercars’ existing site www.v8supercar.com.au (available to all Internet users) also has been enhanced by BigPond to include a free motorsport news feed, an upgraded search engine and a newsletter service that will ensure users get the latest information as soon as it’s available.
Australian V8 Supercar Company (AVESCO) Chairman Mr Tony Cochrane said today: “The news feed and the newsletter will provide up-to-date news stories from around the world on V8 Supercars and other leading motor sport categories including F1 and World Rally.”
“V8 Supercars on BigPond Broadband is also a fantastic tool for media who are unable to attend rounds of the V8 Supercar Championship Series giving them live access to all media conferences and highlights of each round,” Mr Cochrane added.
To further enhance and promote V8 Supercars on BigPond Broadband, BigPond will introduce hands-on broadband demonstration Kiosks at V8 Supercar events from Round 2 at Eastern Creek in Sydney.
Telstra will also offer V8 Supercars content to its mobile phone customers.
Customers will be able to subscribe to SMS updates that will include race news, race times and race results for every car, as well as MMS Picture Messages with photos of the action from every round. V8 Supercars results and news will also be accessible via WAP and will be available to fans from Round 1.
Telstra also plans to offer V8 Supercars ringtones, wallpapers and MMS video content during the 2004 season. More information is available at v8supercars.com.au
