Murphy And Kelly Deliver Important Message Of Road Safety

17/3/2004 1:30 (Press Release) - V8 Supercar Championship drivers Greg Murphy and Todd Kelly visited Glenelg Primary School yesterday to reinforce the important message of road safety in the lead up to the much anticipated first round of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship Series at the Clipsal 500 this weekend.

Murphy, who finished second in the Championship last year and also took out the inaugural Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 Bathurst race with Kmart Racing team-mate Rick Kelly, said that reinforcing the important message of road safety is an important aspect of V8 Supercar racing.

“V8 Supercars is now such a highly publicised sport and it is important for our younger generation to realise the importance of following rules on our roads,” Murphy said. “This is a great way to deliver that message.”

Murphy is aiming to get his 2004 Championship campaign off to a flying start at the Clipsal 500 event, coming off a successful 2003 season that included Pukekohe and Bathurst round wins.

Together with Holden Racing Team’s Todd Kelly, the two experienced drivers talked to Glenelg Primary School students about the importance of wearing the appropriate safety clothing whilst driving, the safety equipment that is used in a V8 Supercar as well as their best – and worst – V8 Supercar moments.

The two drivers visited the school, located in Adelaide’s outer suburbs, as part of the 2004 Wright Patton Shakespeare V8 Supercar Schools Program that will visit schools around Australia to provide the younger generation with first hand knowledge of the importance of road safety as well as to provide children with a taste of the power, energy and excitement that is involved with V8 Supercar racing.

Together with AVESCO’s state-of-the-art Kenworth B-Double transporter, the two Wright Patton Shakespeare Safety Cars provide Australia’s youth with the opportunity to enjoy the colour and movement of AVESCO’s travelling roadshow.

The visit coincides with the first round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series - the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, that also features for the second consecutive year the Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series as the major support category.
