Castrol Perkins primed for Adelaide Street Fight

16/3/2004 17:35 (Press Release) - Castrol Perkins Motorsport is primed and ready for this weekends V8 Supercar Series opener on the Streets of Adelaide.

After a great performance less than two weeks ago at Albert Park finishing second, Castrol Perkins Motorsport has its sights set on one better this weekend at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

The team's main focus is on winning this years championship and knows how important it is to get off to a good start, so with up to 192 points on offer with 2 x 250 Km races it is one of the most important races in the series to score points.

With the first of the pit stops for this year the cars are stopping for both tyres and fuel, so the team has incorporated a new system with pit stops and has doubt it will be amongst the quickest in pit lane. "With the competitiveness of the cars and drivers you can't afford to make mistakes in pitlane so we have put procedures in place this year to make sure we give our drivers every chance of winning with super fast pit stops" says Team Manager Ian Kay.

Castrol Perkins Motorsports Steven Richards is looking forward to Adelaide and making sure his good form from Albert Park continues, and turns into valuable points to start the new season.

"There is no doubt that the Clipsal 500 is the jewel in the V8 Supercar Series crown. The two 250 km race format is the toughest on the calendar and with the traditional great weather in Adelaide, we all know how physically and mentally draining this event can be, for drivers and teams alike. The circuit gives absolutely no let up, and with the now much faster Turn 8, offers plenty of breathtaking moments for the drivers. It is without question the toughest, most important way to kick start the season." says Steven.

Paul Dumbrell has come away from Albert Park full of confidence and cant wait to get back to Adelaide, he rates the track one of his favorites and finished in a strong position there last year.

"The Clipsal 500 is one of the best races on the Calendar, and after coming off a consistent run at the AGP, I am really looking forward to getting my #8 Castrol car thundering round the Adelaide circuit. 2003 we finished 7th overall, which was my first start in the main V8 Supercar series, so this year, with more knowledge and experience, I am looking to repeat 03, and with Richo in great form, I think you will see the Castrol cars up the front." Said Paul.

Tony Longhurst is also looking forward Adelaide and competing the full championship this year after driving endurance races only over the past couple of years.

"I am looking forward to getting more miles in the car at Adelaide, Albert Park was a real eye opener for me as I had forgotten just how fast and competitive these V8 Supercars are. The team gave me a superb car at Albert Park so I am looking forward to driving it this weekend in Adelaide. The aim for me this weekend is to concentrate on car setup and come away with as many points as possible" said Tony.

The V8 Supercar action kicks off at 9:30 on Friday with two practice sessions, qualifying and the Top 10 shootout. The first of the two 250k races is on Saturday with the other following on Sunday.
