CAMS crack-down continues - Longhurst docked points
25/3/2000 18:44 (Jason Whittaker) - Who ever said CAMS wasn't tough enough? In a stunning crack-down on on-track behaviour, CAMS has docked 10 points from the tally of Tony Longhurst after he was found guilty of careless driving earlier this week.
Longhurst will be 10 points poorer going into Round 3 after his Barbagallo misconduct, another example of a CAMS behaviour crack-down that has silenced many of the governing body's critics.
Longhurst was docked the points after the Barbagallo main straight altercation with fellow Ford man Paul Weel, where Longhurst literally drove Weel's AU off the track
Jason Bargwanna also wore the wrath of CAMS's new tougher-stance, receiving a three-month suspended penalty of 10 Championship points after an incident with Larry Perkins.
Queenslander Paul Romano was also involved in an altercation with Perkins at Barbagallo, receiving a $2,000 fine for his trouble.
John Bowe, Anthony Tratt and Cameron McConville received fines for various offences concerning flags and marshals.
These latest penalties come two weeks after Paul Morris' stunning exclusion from the Barbagallo race meeting, after wrestling with Neil Crompton at the Australian Grand Prix.
Morris later had the ruling overturned, which also included a $10,000 fine, and was later allowed to race at Barbagallo - much to the obvious disgust of Crompton.
A reason for the back down won't be given by CAMS until next week.
