Ingall finishes 10th in last GP rae

12/3/2004 16:46 (Press Release) - Caltex Havoline Racing’s Russell Ingall finished 10th in the final race of the Netspace V8 Supercar Challenge at the Foster’s Australian Formula One Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne today.

Ingall managed to jump from 13th to 10th on the opening lap and was as high as seventh when he got a tap from Todd Kelly on lap seven which caused him to loose a couple of places.

He slipped back to 10th when he let his charging Stone Brothers Racing teammate Marcos Ambrose through on lap nine.

Ingall ran the race on older tyres, but still managed to progress three places and finish in the top 10 in his Caltex Havoline Ford.

“We ran the last race on older tyres because there was not much chance of winning the race from where we were starting,” said Ingall.
“The tyres we have from here we have to use in practice at the opening championship round.
“We battled through and managed to keep the car straight, which was the main objective.
“We have our eye on the big picture and the first part of that comes in Adelaide in two weeks time.”

Ambrose, the defending V8 Supercar champion, produced a storming drive in his Pirtek Falcon to finish sixth after starting from 25th position due to his non-finish yesterday.

Ambrose is quietly confident heading into the opening round of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship Series in Adelaide in two weeks time.

“I think there were some great signs for us today, especially with Adelaide just a couple of weeks away,” said Ambrose.
“It would have been easy to start from pit lane or park our car early like some others, but we were there to race.
“It has been a long time since we have had to come from the back, but I really enjoyed myself.
“I think we learnt a lot over the course of the weekend and that we will be better for the knowledge when we arrive in South Australia in 10 days time.”

The V8 Supercars will now head to Adelaide on March 18-21 for the Clipsal 500 –the opening round of the 2004 championship.
