Ellery Hits Top Ten
7/3/2004 10:55 (Press Release) -
Steven Ellery once again continued to make progress at the Netspace V8 Supercar Showdown today with the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon finishing race two in 10th position.
All weekend Ellery has continued to strive towards a benchmark of the top ten and today after starting race two from grid position 12 he achieved it.
The Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon was the third Ford V8 Supercar to cross the finish line at the Albert Park Circuit.
“Since the team rolled the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon out of the truck we have been aiming to be in the top ten all weekend. To finish in that position today means we are getting closer to the target we set ourselves before we even arrived in Melbourne earlier this week,” Ellery said.
“All weekend we continue to iron out a couple of problems which have become apparent in the off season and each race I get faster and more settled in the car. I’m just glad we have had the opportunity to test the car in a race environment before the start of the V8 Supercar Championship at Adelaide in a two weeks time.”
“We’ve struggled a little this weekend and to be the third Ford home is really encouraging. It means we don’t have as many problems as we first thought we did.”
Almost a year today, Ellery was unable to participate in the entire V8 Supercar program at the Australian Grand Prix due to torn shoulder tendons sustained early in the weekend.
Today the shoulder injury which cost Ellery valuable track time last year raised its ugly head again and caused some pain during the 19 lap race.
“I thought I had the shoulder injury under control and it wasn’t an issue any more. But today it didn’t feel right at the start of the race and by the end of the 100 kilometres I was glad to be driving into the pits,” Ellery commented.
“I’ve obtained medical advice and I should be right to start tomorrow’s 10 lap sprint race.”
Tomorrow morning marks the end of the V8 Supercar support races at the Australian Grand Prix with a 10 lap race. Formula One racing action starts at 2pm.
