DISAPPOINTING SECOND GRAND PRIX RACE

The second V8 Supercar race at the 2004 Australian Grand Prix started with promise for Ford Performance Racing (FPR) drivers Craig Lowndesn and Glenn Seton, but yielded disappointing results.
CAT FPR Falcon driver Craig Lowndes failed to finish the race when he clipped a corner apex tyre bundle on lap 16 of 19, breaking a steering component and sending the 29 year old driver into the turn 11 sandtrap.
Ford Credit FPV Falcon driver Glenn Seton had his race ruined by an early race puncture that forced him into the pits, eliminating any chance of a strong result. Seton finished the race in 21st position.
The team plan for the race was to finish as close to the top ten as possible to gain better Sunday third race starting positions. The second race results did not reflect the improvements made to both FPR Falcons since yesterday's opening event.
The final ten lap V8 Supercar showcase race at the Grand Prix takes place at 10:35am tomorrow.
#5 Glenn Seton - "I had a puncture which was caused by something hitting the valve and ripping it out. Despite that I got back out on the track to get some more miles in the car. Overall the balance of the car was OK, I am chasing front grip as it was difficult to carry mid corner speed throughout the race."
#6 Craig Lowndes - "We continue to improve the car with the adjustments we have made, the car is very sensitive to the changes we are making and this is good. I damaged the front left hand tie rod end by clipping tyres throughout the race
which is easy to do here. This left me without steering and grounded in a sandtrap. The car was strong though, we were running strongly with a number of our competitors so I am pleased that we are making progress, but obviously disappointed to not have gained a result."
FPR Chief Engineer John Russell - "A strong drive by both drivers, Glenn's was hampered by a puncture and Craig had an altercation with a tyre bundle and paid
the price, so we move on to tomorrow's final race."
The race was won by Holden driver Jason Bright with colleagues Stephen Richards
and Greg Murphy second and third.
