R2 RACE 3 - Lowndes by the dozen
19/3/2000 21:17 (Jason Whittaker) - Craig Lowndes kept his perfect record in tact at the Barbagallo Raceway in Perth today with his third win of the Shell Championship Series round, taking his record to twelve wins from as many starts here.
Lowndes took his third victory in front of a fast finishing Garth Tander, with the second HRT car of Mark Skaife in third.
The Holden Racing Team defending champion was never headed in a weekend which also saw his team's record at the circuit stretched to five round wins in a row. Lowndes celebrated with a showstopping series of burnouts in front of his hordes of fans.
"I really enjoy racing at this circuit and the team has got the cars set up perfectly for the track. First thing I thought at the end was burnout, and the race director let me have a bit of fun," he said.
Garth Tander's two thirds and a second leave him just two points clear of Mark Skaife in the Series points while Craig Lowndes has put the disappointment of his engine failure at Phillip Island behind him to climb back to third place. Paul Radisich's fighting style sees him in fourth place and the leading Ford hope.
The Shell Championship Series heads to Adelaide in April for the Clipsal 500.
