Radisich Proves the Betta Ford
6/3/2004 9:56 (Press Release) -
Paul Radisich started in eighth position on the grid in today’s race one of the three-race event in the V8 Supercars support category at Melbourne’s Albert Park Grand Prix event.
From the green light signalling the start of the race, the pace was fast and furious, with Radisich dropping one position before the first corner only to come back up into 6th position by lap 4.
Lap 3 saw the first incident with a coming together of Murphy & Skaife, resulting in Skaife dropping back to 18th position.
Further back in the pack Paul Weel and Russell Ingall had a coming together, placing Ingall in the Caltex Falcon into the gravel trap with the situation resulting in Weel being black-flagged.
Radisich drove a good clean calculated race, proving the new Team Betta Electrical / Triple Eight Race Engineering BA Ford Falcon is a force to be reckoned with this season. Yet again being the first Ford home and gaining 5th position in the race.
“The car felt good throughout the race although it was down on power in comparison to the leading 4 cars ahead of me”.
“We are yet to implement our full engine development program,” said Radisich.
“I’m quietly confident the team can provide me with a car capable of staying with the leading 3 cars.”
“We probably won’t see our total package come together until mid-way through the season,” Radisich concluded.
The teams second Team Betta Electrical Falcon, car 77, driven by Max Wilson, started in 22nd place on the grid and maintained that position for the entire ten-lap event.
“You could be forgiven for thinking this race was the first round of the Championship Series, the pace was very fast”.
“We just want to prove the car in readiness for the Clipsal 500, “ said Wilson.
“I know we have a winner here with these cars, particularly with the engine development currently underway”, commented Wilson.
Tomorrow’s Race Two takes the format of a 19 lap 100 klm event due to commence at 4.00pm.
