R2 RACE 2 - HRT maintain ownership in the West

19/3/2000 21:12 (Jason Whittaker) - Craig Lowndes has extended his winning streak in WA, and climbed up the points table with his eleventh Barbagallo race victory from eleven starts in race two of the Shell Championship Series round today.

Lowndes led his Holden Racing Team partner, Mark Skaife from start to finish as the leading V8 Supercar team exerted its dominance over the field. HRT now boast 12 wins from the last 14 Shell series races at the Barbagallo Raceway and appear well on their way to their fifth straight round win.

The two red Holdens were never threatened as they marched away from the field off the start line, and again after a 2-lap safety car period. Castrol Holden's Russell Ingall looked a chance to challenge but could not match the speed of the leaders.

Garth Tander surrendered third place to Ingall off the start, but the Valvoline Cummins racer finished fourth and has accumulated enough points to share the Shell Series points lead with Mark Skaife with one race to go today.

Shell Helix Racing's Paul Radisich continued to be the stand out Ford driver in fifth, followed by Mitre Ten Ford's Mark Larkham. A hard charging Jason Bargwanna was seventh, followed by Radisich's teammate, Steven Johnson.

Cameron McLean had impressed in his Greenfields Falcon but beached it two laps from the end. He was joined in the sand by the Kmart Holden of Steven Richards who will line up next to him at the rear of the grid in race three.
