TKR's New All Black Warrior Arrives

4/3/2004 19:10 (Press Release) - Team Kiwi Racing V8 Supercar driver Craig Baird had his first test of the teams new ALL BLACK VY Holden V8 Supercar at Queensland Raceway recently, in preparation for the invitation only Melbourne Grand Prix meeting this weekend around the exciting Albert Park circuit.

Baird along with TKR's General Manager Martin Collins from Auckland and TKR's Head Mechanic Mike Sentch from Christchurch, put the new TKR Holden VY V8 Supercar through its paces clocking up some very respectable times while doing so.

"The new car is the latest spec VY and very different from what we used last year, so it was good to have some laps under my belt before the Melbourne Grand Prix"

"We are all excited to have a current spec car going into this season and must thank the Sponsors and Team Owner David John for ensuring this was achieved". says Baird

Baird has been seen putting in many more hours in the gym and on the push bike than he has done so for years.

This in conjunction with his pre season racing in the Trans Tasman Porsche Challenge in New Zealand during the off season will see Baird start the 2004 Australian V8 Supercar Championship as one of the fittest drivers on the track.

With Baird doing the hard work in the gym, the rest of the team have been working hard behind the scenes to maximise the teams potential for both this year and years to come.

"Our main focus during the off season was in establishing a team in the Konica Minolta Championship for the long term benefits of the team while also securing a current spec VY V8 Supercar for the main event to assist with our short term objectives"

"We have achieved both of these objectives during the off season and with the arrival of the teams new All Black VY V8 Supercar for the Melbourne Grand Prix this marks the start of an exciting time at TKR ". - says Team Owner David John.

The V8 Supercar teams will have three races over the weekend at the Melbourne Grand Prix event with the first race on Friday, second race on Saturday and third and final race on Sunday.

The Melbourne Grand Prix event is an invitation only, non championship event for the V8 Supercars, with the first round of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship being held in Adelaide at the Clipsal 500 event on March 18 - 21.

The Adelaide Clipsal 500 event combines the second round for the Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship and is also the sixth round of the New Zealand V8 Touring Car Championship for Team Kiwi Racing.
