Strong Konica Minolts Debut For TKR
23/2/2004 1:59 (Press Release) -
TKR/Hydraulink driver Mark Porter has capped off a strong debut outing for his new team in the Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship, finishing 7th overall for the weekend at Wakefield Raceway,NSW, despite a disastrous rain interrupted third race.
The TKR run car finishing 7th and 4th in the first two races consecutively seeing the team on track to finish in the top 3 by the end of the day as long as Porter could finish inside the top 10 in the third and final race.
Porter got off to a great start in race three moving quickly up to third position for the first 10 laps of the race before the officials decided to stop the race due to heavy rain fall.
This saw the race declared a wet race and all teams had to ensure they had wet weather tyres on their cars for the restart.
The race was eventually restated as a wet weather race seeing Porter up to second by the first corner only to have his front windscreen start to fog up as a result of the heat from the engine and the rain.
With limited vision getting worse by the lap, slowly but surely Porter started losing ground to those who could see where they were going and was lucky to have not put the TKR/Hydraulink car into the wall on many occasions.
Porter struggled till the end of the race managing to finish in a respectable 21st position considering the circumstances.
"We could have come away from this weekend in the lead of the Championship if it was not for such a silly problem"
"Regardless this weekend has been a solid hitout for the whole TKR crew who worked together very well and I feel we are ahead of where I was at this same time last year". says Porter.
TKR will now schedule a full test day with the teams Konica Minolta car and V8 Supercar before the Adelaide Clipsal 500 event where TKR will be competing in both the Konica Minolta Championship and the Main event V8 Supercar Championship.
