AGP Race 3 Race Summary and Results

12/3/2000 13:26 (Shane Rogers) - Mark Skaife has taken out race three of the Hot Wheels V8Supercar Showdown. Skaife led from start to finish in an incident packed event at Albert Park earlier today.

There was drama before the start, when Greg Murphy was forced to start from pit lane. Russell Ingall also jumped the start in a big way with what looked to be a mechanical problem.

Skaife won the start, but all hell broke loose behind as Steven Richards tried to sqeeze Jason Bargwanna as the cars crossed the start/finish line.

Richards and Bargwanna touched, sending Richards spearing backwards in the inside concrete wall.

Skaife led into turn 3, from Radisich, Tander, Lowndes, Bargwanna and Perkins. Radisich ran wide at turn 5, allowing Tander to pass at turn 6. Radisich then re-passed Tander at turn 7.

Further back in the field, Crompton got turned around by Morris at turn 5. Crompton slid wide on the grass, then drifted into the center of the circuit. McConville hit Crompton, Todd Kelly hit the wall trying to avoid Crompton, and Cameron McLean also suffered damage. Crompton's Falcon also ended up against the inside wall, forcing the saftey car out onto the circuit.

Crompton was extemely dissapointed, that dissapointment multiplied as FTR have recently sold their spare car, meaning that Crompton is a doubtful starter for Barbagallo next weekend. McConville is also doubful at this point.

The Saftey Car led the field for laps 2 through 4, with the order being Skaife, Radisich, Tander, Lowndes, Bargwanna, Perkins, Bowe, Faulkner, Morris, Longhurst, Ellery and Forbes.

Nobody gained an advantage on the lap 5 restart and the top 10 positions remained the same. Steve Reed spun at turn 3 on the final lap, with Jones and Romano running into the back of Reed's car with nowhere to go. Trevor Ashby also spun at turn 13.

Paul Weel's car broke down as the cars crossed the finish line, after Skaife took the finish, ahead of Radisich, Tander, Lowndes, Bargwanna, Perkins, Bowe, Faulkner, and Morris all in the leading bunch.
