AGP Race 2 Summary and Full Results
11/3/2000 18:40 (Shane Rogers) - After a lost opportunity yesterday, Mark Skaife has taken out race 2 of the Hot Wheels V8Supercar Showdown earlier today. The HRT driver led comfortably for most of the race, with Paul Radisich finishing in second place.
Skaife won the start from second on the grid, passing Tander on the inside into turn 1. Ellery jumped the start big-time, but was not noticed by the officials. Steven Johnson also ran wide at turn 1 the first time.
Skaife settled in front, and exteded a lead from Radisich, Lowndes, Ingall, Perkins, Tander, Bowe, and Johnson. By lap 2, the top 6 already had a big gap on the rest of the field, while Skaife was on his own out front. Paul Weel spun and lost a lap trying to recover on lap 2.
As the race settled down, Trevor Ashby ran wide at turn 1. Meanwhile, Lowndes and the trailing four drivers were hounding Radisich for second position.
On lap 8, Lowndes touched Radisich gently into turn 13. On lap 9 Lowndes tried passing Radisich on the side, but couldn't make the move.
Lowndes lost momentum, and was passed by Ingall on the inside, Ingall swerving to avoid debris on the circuit between turns 13 and 14.
On lap 10, Ingall's rear right tyre exploded under brakes into Turn 1, forcing him to the pits. Tander passed Perkins, while Lowndes dropped back to 5th position.
Steven Johnson failed to finish the race after an off-track excursion and another spin into the gravel on lap 11.
Larkham consistently passed cars during the race and finshed in sixth position behind Skaife, Radisich, Tander, Perkins, and Lowndes.
The third race will be a 6 lap sprint preceeding the Australian Grand Prix tomorrow.
