TKR Ready For Konica Minolta Debut

20/2/2004 15:01 (Press Release) - TKR are ready for their debut outing IN the Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship this weekend at Wakefield Park Raceway, NSW.

Driver Mark Porter who finished third in the Konica Championship last year is excited to be involved with the new team which has come about through the joint efforts of the teams major sponsor Hydraulink and TKR.

"I am looking forward to this weekends racing and maximising the potential this new team has"

" Our goal is too qualify well, then keep out of trouble and simply collect as many points as possible". says Porter

The first round of a Championship always tends to have a high level of incidents and with the Konica Minolta V8 Supercar field being of such a high standard you can't afford to not finish races this year.

Porter finished last years Konica V8 Supercar Championship in third position and wants to go one better this year but he and the new team are realistic enough to know that the Konica Minolta Championship will be far more competitive this year than last year and that it is going to take a much bigger effort to achieve that goal.

Porter will drive the TKR V8 Supercar Craig Baird drove in last years main event and the same car Porter and Baird got up into the top seventh position at Bathurst before an overheating problem.

TKR V8 Supercar Driver Craig Baird will be flying to Sydney to support Porter for the first full race weekend in the new car.

"The Konica Minolta Championship is a very important part of TKR's development strategy to assist with getting the teams V8 Supercar in the main event further up the grid"

"If there is anything I can assist Mark with over the weekend in the car he will be driving, which is the same car I drove last year, then that will benefit all of us". says Baird

Wakefield Park is a 2.2km racing circuit that operates under both a CAMS National Circuit licence and also under the Department of Sport and Recreation permit scheme.

The circuit is located 2 hours drive from Sydney and about 1 hour from Canberra and is positioned on 130 acres of cleared land. There are no trees or natural obstacles near the track. Safety is paramount and ripple strips, tyre walls and gravel traps have been positioned so as to make Wakefield a very safe circuit on which to run any type of racecar, production car or motorcycle.

The second round of the Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship will be at the Adelaide Clipsal 500 where TKR will also be running the teams new V8 Supercar in the main event.
