Andrew Jones Gets Major Backing

20/2/2004 14:49 (Press Release) - Andrew Jones’ assault on this weekend’s opening round of the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship has received a major boost with giant gas and related products company, BOC announcing a major backing of the title hopeful.

Jones will roll out his newly designed BOC Falcon V8 Supercar on Saturday at Wakefield Park in Goulburn, the venue for the first outing of V8 Supercars in 2004.

“BOC were a great supporter of the team last year and have increased their involvement for Wakefield Park. We’re really excited about what their assistance can provide us,” said Andrew Jones.

“I think the excitement also comes from the design of the car. We think we’ve come up with one of the most striking liveries that the Konica Minolta championship has ever seen,” Jones added.

Jones, who finished inside the top ten in his first outing at Bathurst last year and took out the Konica Minolta V8 Super round at Winton, has only one expectation in 2004 –“Not only are we aiming to win at Wakefield on the weekend but our goal is to take out the championship.”

“We showed last year that we have the speed to win races and qualify well and also knowing that we are going to compete in every round this year, gives us the confidence to push ourselves hard,” Jones added.

Jones also points out that he is also only one of two drivers that will be driving the same car that they competing in 2003 – “Only Mathew White and I will be in same cars as last year and going to the first round with some familiarity will be a big bonus. I’ll be able to focus on getting as much out of my BOC Falcon car as possible, not trying to get used to it.”

OzEmail Racing’s John Bowe was on hand last Tuesday during Jones’ first test session at Winton Raceway, giving the young gun some handy hints.

“JB [John Bowe] is great. He is always encouraging and pushing me to get more from the racecar. With his experience, I do a lot of listening and not much talking,” Jones concluded.

Jones would also like to acknowledge new major associate sponsor, Sime Tyres and existing partners – Puma, Avanti Bikes, Biante, Gregorys Ford Canberra, Volvo Trucks and PPG.
