An Expanded Matthew White Racing Out To Take Championship

16/2/2004 15:19 (Press Release) - Runner up of the 2003 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship, Matthew White believes he has the complete racing package and resources with his new two car team, to go one step further and take out this year's title.

"I think we have what it takes to win," White said, "With that in mind it's not going to be easy. Last year was hard and this year will be harder again. It will be the case of finishing every race."

"As far as I'm concerned, it's a waste of time going out there unless you want to win, and the team and I are certainly hungry for that. Since changing to Ford we have been on the podium at every round, so hopefully we can continue with this record."

This year also marks the expansion of Matthew White Racing to a two car team with Dean Wanless at the wheel of the #76 Wastecorp Holden. Wanless holds numerous titles in Super Speedway and was a regular NASCAR front runner.

"We will be running a car for Dean for the year. He hasn't driven a V8 Supercar for a while, but give him a bit of familiarity time, and I think he will certainly be on the money," White commented.

White believes with the addition of Wanless and his skills and experience in other racing categories will help booster the performance of the team in what is the one of the fastest growing and competitive motorsport competitions in Australia.

"As Dean [Wanless] makes progress, we will share information and driving styles. Hopefully I will be an equal help to him while he is finding his feet."

Expanding to a two car team, with extended support from Jayco Caravans and Gulf Western Oil, White believes his team is set for their best season ever.

"The most exciting news from the off season is that we secured the on-going sponsorship from Jayco Caravans and continued backing from Gulf Western Oil. Their support ensures we have the budget for more resources for testing and car development," White explained.

While Mark Winterbottom took out last year's Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship, White believes there was a step up in the level of competitiveness in the rest of the field. Something White predicts will occur again this year.

"I'm not sure if anyone will be faster, but I think that more people will be closer to the mark than last year. There are a number of level one teams who have stepped up their commitment in the category. I believe there are five drivers who will be potential podium contenders at each round," White concluded.

Round one of the 2004 Konica Minolta Championship will be a Wakefield Park near Goulburn in New South Wales on the 21 - 22 February 2004.
