AGP Race 1 Race Summary and Full Results

11/3/2000 11:28 (Shane Rogers) - Garth Tander has won the first of three races in the Hot Wheels V8Supercar showdown at Albert Park, yesterday. Tander led from start to finish. Mark Skaife finished second, with Paul Radisich the first Ford home in third.

Tander won a clean start from Skaife and Radisich. Radisich soon passed Tander for second as the top five cars (Lowndes 4th, Ingall 5th) pulled a gap on the trailing pack led by Steven Johnson.

Johnson had a small off and dropped to the back of the bunch, while Skaife went wide at Turn 14, and was passed by Ingall and Lowndes. Skaife soon repassed Lowndes, and both the HRT cars were closing on Ingall. Radisich was right behind Tander on lap 2.

Brad Jones retired soon after with a damaged front spoiler. On lap 3, Craig Baird spun into the gravel at Turn 1 and retired. Paul Morris spun his Commodore at Turn 3, before continuing. Skaife passed Ingall for third position.

By lap 4, Tander was pulling away from Radisich, while Lowndes passed Ingall for fourth.

There were many spins during the 10-lap event. Jason Bargwanna spun at Turn 1 and retired. Cameron McLean and Todd Kelly also spun during the race.

Into the final lap, Radisich was passed firstly by Skaife at the start of the back section, followed through by Lowndes.

At turn 15, Skaife make a mistake, forcing Lowndes to back off. Radisich seized his opportunity and passed on the inside, the two cars touching as the exited turn 15.

Sam Newman managed not to be lapped by the leading cars, but he is expected to be lapped in the longer 12-lap race today.
