EXCLUSIVE - Team Faulkner goes online Asian-style for new backer
10/3/2000 13:35 (Jason Whittaker) - The somewhat financially-starved Faulkner Racing outfit has received a major boast to their 2000 SCS campaign yesterday, with blossoming World Internet company Asia Online signing on as naming-rights sponsor.
On the eve of the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, at which Faulkner will compete, the team was able to announce the lucrative two-year sponsorship deal, with the option of a third year.
The JFR operation will now be known as Team Asia Online.
"We chose to sponsor John Faulkner Racing as it reflects Asia Online's qualities of speed, power, cutting-edge technology and commitment," John Hayden, Marketing Director for Asia Online in Australia, said.
Asia Online has been an industry leader in the IT world throughout South East Asia, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, India and the Philippines.
The company is set to launch onto the Australian market in the next few weeks, offering dial-up, ISPN, web-design and e-commerce to many areas of Australia, with offices strategically placed in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and the Gold Coast.
It is believed the deal will allow Melbourne-based JFR to run two VT Commodores for the remainder of the Shell Series.
A pilot for the second VT, along with Faulkner's four-man endurance squad, will be announced shortly.
Faulkner's No. 46 Team Asia Online Commodore made it's debut at the Albert Park circuit yesterday, qualifying for Race 1 in 18th position.
"Team Asia Online will be a strong contender in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship, reflecting the competitive Asia Online network in Australia," Mr Hayden said.
